Fogelsville, PA — The Good Government Show, flagship podcast of the Good Government Institute, has released a new episode featuring David Holt, mayor of Oklahoma City and past president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
At the center of the conversation is the Oklahoma City Declaration — a document Mayor Holt authored and persuaded 230 bipartisan mayors to sign — committing to reject political violence, dehumanizing rhetoric, and misinformation, even when it originates from their own side.
Holt, who serves a city of nearly 700,000 as a part-time, $24,000-a-year mayor while also serving as dean of Oklahoma City University School of Law, makes a compelling case for why cities consistently deliver results when state and federal governments do not. His argument: mayors are elected by all voters, not closed partisan primaries, which means they must build coalitions from the broad middle — and actually have to deliver services or people suffer.
